Getting started with therapy can come with a lot of questions. Maybe some of these can answer them.

Do you accept insurance ?

We do not accept insurance, and we do not participate with Medicaid; however, insurance can still help you pay for treatment. We are considered "out-of-network providers", which means your insurance can reimburse you a percentage of the cost depending on your coverage. The typical reimbursement rate ranges from 60%-80% of the cost. We recommend that you call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask them the following questions:

  • Do I have out-of-network benefits for mental health therapy?
  • If I pay for those sessions, can I get reimbursed?
  • What is the rate of reimbursement for these appointments?
  • What is my “deductible?” (The deductible is the amount of money you have to pay out-of-pocket before the insurance company begins reimbursing).
  • Is there a limit to the number of sessions that can be reimbursed within a calendar year?
  • Lastly, the insurance company may request a “CPT code” for the appointments. These are the CPT codes I use most frequently:
  • Individual therapy – 90834
  • Couples/Family therapy – 90847
What is the process to begin therapy?

Before the initial appointment, we will arrange a 15 – 20-minute phone call to learn about your concerns and reasons for pursuing therapy. We will also share how we work and answer any questions you may have. From there, we will decide on whether to schedule an initial consultation.

How do I know if you're a good fit for me?

Finding a good match between therapist and patient is essential to a good course of therapy. With that in mind, we’ve tried to describe how we work throughout this website. Take some time to read through the site to get a sense of our approach. Then we can have the initial phone consultation before the first appointment, where you can ask questions and discuss any reservations or concerns.

Finally, book an initial session. It can be challenging to understand how we’ll work together without being with each other in a session. You do not have to commit to regular sessions after the first meeting. After about 3 – 4 sessions, we’ll both know whether the fit is right. Once we figure that out, we’ll discuss the frequency of our meetings and how to proceed.

Do you offer teletherapy or in-person sessions?

We are a hybrid practice, meaning we offer both in-person and virtual sessions.

Can I work with you if I live outside of DC?

Dr. Todd and Ms. Abd-Allah are licensed in DC and Maryland. Dr. Hopkins is licensed in DC, Maryland, Virginia, New York, and 20+ other states under PSYPACT, an inter-jurisdictional licensing board for psychologists. Visit the PSYPACT website to see if your state is included.
