Jayoti Soor, Psy.D.

Change can be scary and being vulnerable about your life in front of a total stranger even scarier. You are not alone in this process. I am here to bear witness to your life’s journey and together we will re-write your life’s script. The script of your life that tells you how you should (shouldn’t) feel/think about yourself/others/certain situations, and the way you see the world. The script that mirrors socially reinforced ideas about race, gender, sexuality, and class that molds who we think we are. I hope that through better understanding of your script; you regain the authorship of your life so that you can create the life that you have always dreamt of!

"Therapy provides
the opportunity to
change your life’s script."

I work with people from diverse backgrounds and presenting problems such as stress, anxiety, depression, complex trauma, life transitions, self-identity, work-life balance and relationship issues. I have a particular interest in working with adolescents and adults who are healing from trauma, particularly sexual assault and sexual abuse, LGBTQ identifying individuals, and immigrants facing acculturation stress.

My Training and Experience

I received my Psy.D. from George Washington University. I have three Master’s degrees: one in Clinical Psychology from George Washington University, a second in Counseling and Dance/Movement Therapy from Antioch University New England, and a third in Mass Communication from Jamia Millia Islamia University in India. I have worked and trained nationally and internationally in private practice, community mental health clinics, psychiatric hospitals, and a college/ university counseling center. Across these settings, I have experienced that building trust in the therapeutic relationship is the key to change. My research interests lie in trauma and narrative formation, gender deconstruction, mindfulness and neuroscience, and how theories of social justice mirror psychology.

Let’s Get Curious About Your Life Experiences…

I am trained as a psychodynamic therapist, meaning I believe your past experiences and relationships shape your present. Your early life experiences have shaped who you are today, the choices you make for the future, who you are drawn towards, and what makes you cringe. Exploring how your life’s experiences have shaped you can help you identify and change limiting beliefs that no longer serve you. I also have experience with Eastern mindfulness practices, and dance/movement therapy training to facilitate greater mind-body connection in the present. I believe a better understanding of yourself can help you experience a greater sense of freedom, connection, and creative self-expression.
