At Hopkins Behavioral Health, we provide culturally responsive therapy rooted in a deep understanding of the lived experiences of people of color. Our work centers those who are seeking deeper meaning, fuller lives, and more authentic relationships in a world that often misunderstands or overlooks their emotional realities.
We specialize in addressing the impact of racial stress, identity development, and intergenerational patterns—going beyond surface-level solutions to support real, lasting change. Whether you’re looking for someone who truly understands your world or simply need space to explore it, we’re here to help you build insight, break harmful cycles, and move toward personal liberation and well-being.
Therapy can be transformative and the journey looks different for everyone. Here are a few common outcomes for long-term individual therapy:
Hopkins Behavioral Health is a therapy practice dedicated to the healing and growth of individuals and couples from all walks of life. We offer compassionate, culturally responsive care that goes beneath the surface to address the deeper roots of pain, disconnection, and harmful patterns. Our goal is to help you reclaim meaning, deepen self-understanding, and move toward personal liberation—so you can live more fully, in alignment with who you truly are.
Along the way you can learn the contours of your heart, the hidden habits that bind you, how your personality developed, the kinds of relationships you’re drawn to, the coping strategies you adopted to survive, or the recurring dynamics that inhibit joy, creativity, confidence, or connection.

Your therapy process will be a one-of-kind tailored process focused on what's most important to you. And we’ll be in it with you to witness, support, challenge, question, and struggle together. We’ll encourage you to remain curious, and advocate for deeper learning at your pace.
Change and growth can be made possible in therapy.
Give yourself the time to be understood and grow with a therapist by your side. Let’s work together to pursue the life you truly desire.
Starting therapy can feel stressful, and it's normal to have questions. Here are some common queries and helpful answers.
Like most therapists in DC, we are considered 'out-of-network providers,' which means we do not accept insurance. However, insurance can reimburse you a percentage of the cost, depending on your coverage. Out-of-network therapists are not tied to insurance companies, which often allows them to focus more on your care without the constraints of insurance guidelines. Choosing an out-of-network provider means paying your therapist first and then pursuing reimbursement from your insurance company. Each month, we will provide you with a single form with all the information you need to receive reimbursement. Most of our patients are reimbursed for 50%-80% of the cost. We recommend that you call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask the following questions to discern how this process:
Our fees range from $160 - $215 for a 50-minute individual therapy session and $220 - $300 for a 60- 80-minute couples session. The fees depend on the therapists' level of experience.
Before the initial appointment, we will arrange a 15 – 20-minute phone call to learn about your concerns and reasons for pursuing therapy. We will also share how we work and answer any questions you may have. From there, we will decide on whether to schedule an initial consultation.
Finding a good match between therapist and patient is essential to a good course of therapy. With that in mind, we’ve tried to describe how we work throughout this website. Take some time to read through the site to get a sense of our approach. Then we can have the initial phone consultation before the first appointment, where you can ask questions and discuss any reservations or concerns.
Finally, book an initial session. It can be challenging to understand how we’ll work together without being with each other in a session. You do not have to commit to regular sessions after the first meeting. After about 3 – 4 sessions, we’ll both know whether the fit is right. Once we figure that out, we’ll discuss the frequency of our meetings and how to proceed.
We are a hybrid practice, meaning we offer both in-person and virtual sessions.
